I started working when I was just 16 years old. For more than two decades, I worked for others – jobs I loved, jobs I didn’t, but always on someone else’s terms. On paper, I achieved many goals and milestones. But deep inside, I knew something was missing.

In my last job, I worked with K9 dogs detecting drugs, explosives, weapons and public safety. I truly loved that part of my career – my dogs, the work, the purpose. But what I couldn’t stand was the toxic collective around me. The workplace was filled with gossip, jealousy, and backstabbing. Instead of supporting each other, people were busy tearing each other down.

That kind of energy kills your motivation. It drains your joy, your time, and even your life outside of work. No matter how much passion you have for what you do, when you are surrounded by negativity every single day, it eventually consumes you. Sounds familiar?

On top of that, I was running two apartments as a host and was very successful. Slovenia is beautiful for visitors – mountains, valleys, lakes, sea – but the system is broken. The more you work, the more you pay, and at the end of the month, you are left with nothing but exhaustion and a sense of injustice.

The hardest part wasn’t the toxic environment. It wasn’t even the endless hours – sometimes 12+ hours straight on duty. The real breaking point was my children.

When my oldest son was small, I was always at work. I missed countless moments – his firsts, his milestones, the little everyday joys that never come back. Later, when my youngest son was just three years old, he barely saw me. I was always working, always tired, always absent.

And here is the truth no one wants to say out loud: once you miss those moments, they are gone forever. You cannot buy them back. You cannot replace them.

Childhood goes by in a blink, and suddenly you ask yourself – where was I while they were growing up?

I knew I couldn’t let that happen again.

When we left, I had to reinvent myself completely. I thought working online would be simple – set up a website, start a shop, and money rolls in. But I quickly learned that it doesn’t work like that. I had no idea.

The online space is full of so-called “gurus” selling outdated courses for thousands of dollars. They promise success but deliver empty blueprints that no longer work. I wasted time, energy, and money – but I refused to give up.

I started from scratch. I learned everything step by step: how to build digital products, how to use tools like Canva, Systeme.io, and AI, and how to market and sell online. I failed, I adjusted, I grew.

And today, I not only run my own digital business – I also help others avoid the mistakes I made. My strength? Brutal honesty. I don’t sell false promises. I tell people what works and what doesn’t, even when it’s not what they want to hear. That’s why my clients get results – they start on the right foundation.

Walking away from a steady paycheck was scary. But here’s what I gained:

• Time with my children. My oldest is an adult now, and I missed many of his milestones because I was always working. I didn’t want to make the same mistake again. Now I get to live my youngest son’s childhood with him, not watch it from the sidelines.

• Freedom of location. I can work from anywhere – whether that’s Costa Rica, Dubai, or my kitchen table.

• Energy for life. No more toxic environments. No more draining shifts. I can choose who I work with and how I spend my days.

• Real growth. Both as a business owner and as a person, I’ve grown more in the last few years than in decades of working for others.

I don’t share this to brag. I share it because too many people feel stuck – in jobs they don’t like, in systems that don’t serve them, in routines that steal their best years.

If you’ve ever thought, “Is this it? Is this all life is?” – then know this: you can change. It’s not easy. It takes courage, learning, and resilience. But it’s possible.

Because life is too short to live by someone else’s script. You get one chance – and you deserve to live it fully.

Today, I live a digital lifestyle. I work online, I travel with my family, I create freedom on my own terms. I’m not saying it’s perfect or without challenges. But it’s mine – and that makes all the difference.
